Piper AKA Aunt Jemima

For fun I offered to put Piper's hair up in sponge curlers.  She thinks that curly hair is fancy hair.  Here she's doing her best Aunt Jemima impersonation.  She even kept them in all night and looked fabulous for church in the morning.  I don't think I took the "after" shot though, whoops.

Simon the Cutie

Gratuitous shots of Simon looking cute.  He has more hair and it's a bit redder now than when we were in Cleveland.

Indians Game

We scored tickets to the Indians/Royals game in August.  Rick grew up a Royals fan from his Kansas days.  I rooted for the home team.  Piper waffled between the two but sometimes she would root for the Indians just to make Rick look disappointed for pretend.  We had a fun time and even stayed for the fireworks.  I think half of the appeal for Piper (and for me too, who am I kidding?!) was the fun food.

During the eighth inning, some ushers told us that we could move closer to some empty seats so as to see the fireworks better.  When we sat in our new seats, somewhere around the 15th row, Piper declared, "Now this is more like it."

Swinging

Simon had been on a swing before but he seemed to enjoy this time more than in the past.  Again, these pics are from back when we were still in Cleveland.

Being the flirt he is.

Raspberry Picking

Here we are picking raspberries in Cleveland back in August.  We went here last year too when Simon was only ten days old.  It was definitely hotter in August and there were lots of bees too.

3 Weeks Down of Thanks - 11/21

We're not having a great run of luck the last few days but I am grateful for tender mercies.

1.  While waiting in the car for Rick to pick up dinner last night, two teenagers were messing around and one of them was pushed/fell into the passenger side of our car.  I was completely caught off guard.  I honked the horn and got out of the car.  They just continued walking and laughing.  They didn't even turn around to look until they were down the block.  I'm grateful that the damage to the car wasn't worse and that me and Simon weren't hurt.  They put a slight indentation in the passenger-side door.

2.  Simon grazed his head on a painted cinder block at church today.  I'm grateful that it wasn't worse than it was.

3.  Piper slammed her finger in the car door this afternoon.  It didn't break the skin but it's still swollen and will definitely be bruised for a while.  I'm grateful that it's not broken and that I've learned that I need to be the one to close her door from now on.

4.  Citrus-glazed salmon and roasted potatoes for dinner.  We've had it before but tonight Piper declared it her favorite dinner ever.  That girl loves superlatives.

5.  Simon's kisses and cuddles.  He was playing with another baby at church today and he put his arms around her and just leaned in with his head down on her shoulder for a hug.  He's learned to give kisses too if you ask for one.  Simon has also learned to fold arms for prayer.  If you tell him to fold his arms, he will and is very proud of himself.  Now just to work on keeping them folded for the duration.

Day #20

1.  Benadryl.  Our new pediatrician told me that I could give Simon some Benadryl at bedtime to help him with his eczema.  It's been working pretty well.  He's slept through the night for the last three nights.  That's a record for him.  His skin is looking better and he's scratching less.  We'll see if he'll still be better when he's off the meds.

2.  Modern technology.  I love the ability to keep in touch with friends and family, look up addresses on the fly, getting answers to questions, keeping up to date on news, and for having fun.

3.  Eggnog.

4.  My grandma's china.  For Thanksgiving we'll be using her ivy-patterned china.  It's very exciting.

5.  Our new house.  It's getting comfy and familiar.  We are still figuring some things out but it's warm, nice, and big enough.
