1. New clothes. Today I found a brand new KU sweatshirt I had bought on our cross-country trip. I had completely forgotten about it. It fits great so I'll have to make sure not to put it in the dryer.
2. Bill Bryson books. We own about six or seven books of his and and they are pretty great. There have only been a couple that I've read that were just okay. Thankfully those were ones I borrowed from the library, not purchased. He is smart, funny, and just a pleasure to read. I can't wait to dive into his latest, "At Home."
3. Trips to the beach. Today was our inaugural trip to the beach since moving to California. You'd think that being from L.A. would make me a beach girl but I never have been. We tossed aside today's plans for dusting and vacuuming and ventured to the beach. Simon had only been to the beach once before and that was on Lake Erie, which was also an impromptu trip too so I don't really count it. This afternoon we built sandcastles and dipped our feet in the ocean. Simon ate some sand but less than I thought he would. He really seemed to like the seagulls. I caught a crab for Piper which she promptly buried with wet sand in her bucket. We saw a sandpiper too which was fun.
4. Early mornings. The kids woke up earlier than usual which meant that we were all ready, fed, and dressed before 9am. That is quite a feat here in this house. I even contemplated going for a walk around 7:30am but Rick needed some more sleep. I liked being up and ready early but I can't say that I would like the kids to wake up early again tomorrow.
5. Peppermint hot chocolate.

Hooray! A fellow Bill Bryson fan! I read his books over and over again. In fact, I'm re-reading "At Home" right now.
